A World Not Ours (2012)
Monday 26 October, 21:00
De Uitkijk, Amsterdam
An intimate and darkly humorous portrait of three generations living in exile in a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, where director Mahdi Fleifel himself grew up. Drawing on a vast collection of personal film archives, the film weaves a decades-long diary of memories, despair, hope and return. Whilst Fleifel is free to leave the camp, his friend Abu Iyad is not. The boys talk passionately about Palestinian politics and the approaching World Cup, yet their friendship is overshadowed by a staggering inequality: Abu Iyad is condemned to a hopeless existence as a stateless exile. (2012 · Mahdi Fleifel · 93 min) Screening at De Uitkijk.
